prêt-à-packing 001
safari styling
As I always say, “if you know me, you know…” but if you really know me, you know my peak Type A fully emerges the second a trip is booked. Packing to me is less “throwing things in a suitcase” and more a highly strategic operation with moodboards, outfit equations, and backup plans involved. Whether it’s a quick weekend away or a longer vacay, I’m all about efficiency while somehow still maximizing as many looks as possible.
Packing cubes are my religion. Not only are they a complete game changer, but they let me pack exactly what I need while still leaving room for options. I style out every look for day and night ahead of time depending on the vibe, mood, and itinerary. And from experience, some outfits will absolutely never see the light of day and that is simply part of the process.
Regardless, there is nothing more comforting to me than knowing my suitcase is fully prepped for whatever, wherever, and any last-minute outfit crisis that may arise. So here is my breakdown of the styling strategy behind my recent safari trip, followed by the fits that actually made the cut:
I set aside a few hours to properly style and accessorize each look before leaving. South Africa in May sits right on the cusp of winter, meaning freezing early mornings, warm afternoons, and cooler evenings, so versatility was key.
I then create stickers and fully game plan everything in my Notes app so I can easily reference what look is for what and move things around as needed. Backup options are non-negotiable. A spare outfit, extra layering piece, or even just a top that can be restyled differently somehow always ends up saving the day.
Firstly, as if I don’t say it enough, this is very much a Flore Flore household. Half of my outfits somehow always revolve around their basics and frankly I have stopped fighting it. The Dewi Tank has the most fabulous fit and pairs perfectly with a low-rise option like the Sport Jean.
The Anteros is redefining the button-up, and what better time for a crisp cuff than a post-game-drive happy hour? After early wake-up calls and long days in the bush, the Presley Top was the perfect thing to throw on to instantly feel put together. Already know it’ll be a forever staple in rotation.
Baubles and bracelets and beaded beanies, oh my! I leaned heavily into muted tones and earthy neutrals throughout the trip, so accessories became my favorite way to make each look feel slightly different. I rotated between wearing BaubleBar’s Jane and Joan necklaces stacked together or on their own. And these Zara bangles? The easiest last-minute addition that somehow made any outfit feel more finished.
Color me a cap girlie and twist my arm at any opportunity to throw one into the mix. This Zara one, paired with the Flore Flore Max Tee, an H&M cargo vest, and my beloved Clyque Tommy Pants, easily ended up being one of my favorite looks from the trip. Sometimes the easiest outfits end up being the best ones.
There is something about a capri and a kitten heel just scratches an itch in my brain. These Toteme knitted capris paired with The LLine Halle Sandals became my go-to for fireside dinners and slower evenings at the lodge. Layered with the Max Tee and Sunday Report’s Simon Oversized Shirt, the whole look felt cozy, polished, and exactly the kind of outfit that makes strategic packing worth it.

What is your bag in the last photo? Love
I just bought a crochet cap from Zara as well! I was planning on returning it, but you have inspired me to branch out and try to style it in different ways
